Potty Training

I want to give up.  Potty training is not flowing here.  He's not catching on fast enough and I don't have time.  So, maybe I should postpone this crazy goal.  We were doing great for a little while, but the explosive nastiness in undies while I'm trying to feed the baby is just not good.  I'm stressing and I need to relax.  My house is a WRECK because all I do is watch Pierce like a hawk and RUN him to the potty every 15 minutes only to have him go in his undies as soon as he gets up.  I don't think we're ready...or maybe I should just give it a few more days.  I can't remember how Hudson was, I just know how he is: trained.  We tried pull-ups.  They don't work, for training that is.  They do keep the accidents off the carpet - that's a good thing.  So, should I stop or should I persevere?  Hudson was almost 2 when he was fully trained.  A friend of mine who has raised 4 children had all of hers trained when they were about 2.  Shouldn't I be able to do that?

Whew! I so feel your pain! We have just come down this road with Maximus, and it wasn't long ago that I could have been writing these exact words. Hang in there!!

My two cents for you to take or leave: Our pediatrician recommended waiting until closer to 3 for potty training boys. She said the vast majority of boys she's sees aren't trained til three. I've heard, "You can start training when they turn 2 and finish when they turn 3, or start when they turn 3 and finish when they turn 3." It sounds like you and Hudson bucked the trend... which is awesome. But don't be afraid to give it a break if you need to with Pierce.

If you do want to persevere and get this done right now... have you read the book "Toilet Training in Less Than A Day"? This worked wonders with Max... might be worth checking out for Pierce. I got my copy from the library and now I TOTALLY love this potty training method because it worked so well with us when I was to the end of my rope!

Hang in there, friend! You're a mom-pro. The little guy will get there!!!

Maybe I'm a bad mom, but both Nate and Ian didn't potty-train until right after their 3rd b-day (both were late talkers though), but when they did potty-train, it only took a few days to be COMPLETELY trained. Kyle, I trained around 2 and it took FOREVER to get him trained completely. You are an incredible mom and potty-training is no reflection of who you are as a mom! Pierce will get it; maybe take a few days off and try again next week!

First off, love the background ; )
To the point...
you all ready have the answer. Pierce will give you signs when he's ready.
Pray. Be sure he's ready. Pray some more. each child is so unique what works for one doesn't work for the other. Jman just trained like clockwork while his younger brother not so much.
i'll keep your potty training in my prayers 'cause I know it's so frustrating : )

Al, you are such an over-achiever. Home-schooling, nursing, potty training...getting a devotion ready. I just emailed you a ton of devotion stuff. I feel like I owe you a huge apology for adding to the stress. I hope I didn't make you cry! Please take a break from potty training so I don't feel so bad. :)
Love you!

If it is stressing you out and Pierce doesn't seem ready, just give it a break. Wait a few or a couple weeks, buy him some new undies he will be excited to wear and try again. Avery wasn't potty trained until she was three. Delaney is a little earlier at 2.5 but every kid is different and they will not do it until they are physcially ready. There is no need to cause yourself more stress by trying to make him ready if he is not.
